- Texas Courts
- Texas Courts
The State's Courts develop most laws in any "accident and injury" area (including, but not limited to, animal & dog bites; car, truck & pedestrian accidents; dangerous products liability; medical malpractice; slip & falls and other premises liability cases; and workplace injuries). Municipal Courts, Justice of the Peace Courts, County Courts, District Courts, Courts of Appeals, the Supreme Court and the Court of Criminal Appeals make up the Texas Court system. The Courts of Appeals, the Court of Criminal Appeals, and the Supreme Court 'make' the laws, which appear in their published opinions. The official website for the State's Courts provides a layout of the Court structure in Texas and links to most courts' websites. Published opinions of the Courts of Appeals, Supreme Court, and the Court of Criminal Appeals can be found on their websites.

Texas Courts and the Texas Legislature make most of the laws dealing with accidents and injuries in Texas. However, a few accident and injury cases fall under federal law. For example, maritime workers who suffer job-related injuries or illnesses would sue in Federal Court for compensation under the Jones Act. In that area, Federal Courts (in addition to Congress) "make" the laws, which can be found in their published opinions. The official site for the United State's Courts provides links to each individual federal court. Published opinions of the Courts of Appeals and the Supreme Court can be found on their websites.
